In dealing with ground hogs, use Ro-pel® to treat plants (flowering plants, not vegetables) that they have been attacking or that you expect them to attack. Because many plants grow fast, and attackers will find that new shoots taste just fine, this spraying must be repeated every few weeks during the growing season. Shake-Away™ Small Critter Powder is a refined form of fox urine that comes as a powder. One 20-ounce container (see below) holds enough to create a protective strip one foot wide and 600 feet long around the perimeter of a vegetable garden. Shake-Away™ can also be sprinkled lightly over vulnerable bulbs, bushes, and flowers (which it will not harm) for maximum coverage. The 20-ounce bottle of Shake-Away™ comes with a limited manufacturer’s guarantee of effectiveness. This repellent needs to be replenished fairly often—most notably after a heavy rain. It may also lose its effectiveness over time because target animals residing nearby may eventually deduce that there are no coyotes around despite the presence of coyote scent.
